Hello and welcome to this space where ancient wisdom meets modern life, where the wild holds up an honest mirror to who we’ve become – and who we might yet remember ourselves to be.
I’m Ffion, and this is where I’ll be sharing the lessons, insights, and practical wisdom gathered from over a decade of living between worlds – the wild places that shaped our species for millennia, and the modern landscape we’re all trying to navigate without losing ourselves entirely.
Why This Blog Exists
We live in extraordinary times. Never before have humans been so disconnected from the natural world, yet never before have we been so desperately in need of what it offers. We exist surrounded by convenience, comfort, and constant stimulation, yet rates of anxiety, depression, and stress-related illness continue to climb. We have apps for mindfulness and subscriptions for wellness, but we’ve largely forgotten the simple, profound medicine that exists just beyond our front doors.
This blog isn’t about abandoning modern life – that’s neither possible nor necessary for most of us. It’s about remembering what we are underneath all the conditioning. It’s about discovering that the peace we’re seeking, the resilience we’re trying to build, the authentic connection we’re craving already exists within us, waiting to be awakened by the honest touch of earth, water, wind, and fire.

What You’ll Find Here
Through these pages, I’ll share insights from my year living entirely in the wild – the harsh truths and unexpected gifts that come when you strip away everything except what’s essential. But more importantly, I’ll explore how those lessons translate into daily life for people who can’t or don’t want to sleep under the stars every night.
You’ll find posts about the science behind nature’s healing power, the profound psychology of discomfort, and the revolutionary act of slowing down in a world obsessed with speed. I’ll share practical skills – how to forage medicine from what others call weeds, how to read weather in ways your ancestors knew by heart, how to find genuine calm without needing an app to guide you there.
There will be stories from the field – moments of beauty and brutality that taught me things no classroom ever could. Reflections on what it means to be truly wild in a domesticated world. And always, always, the invitation to remember that you are far more capable, resilient, and connected than you’ve been told you are.
Who This Is For
Perhaps you’ve lost touch with nature and wonder if it’s too late to find your way back. Maybe you’re dealing with chronic health challenges and suspect that our disconnect from natural rhythms is making things worse. You might be new to the outdoors and intimidated by the expertise everyone else seems to possess. Or you could be an experienced adventurer who’s realised that collecting outdoor experiences isn’t the same as being transformed by them.
This space is for all of you.
Everything I share here is grounded in the understanding that each person’s relationship with the wild will be unique. Your mobility, your circumstances, your comfort level, your available time – all of it matters, and all of it can be honoured whilst still allowing nature to work its particular magic.
I’m registered with the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme for a reason. I live with chronic health conditions myself. I know intimately the space between limitation and possibility, between accepting what is and discovering what might yet be possible. The wild doesn’t demand perfection from us – it demands presence. And presence is available to every body, in every moment, regardless of what that body can or cannot do.

What Makes This Different
There’s no shortage of wellness blogs or outdoor adventure content. But most of it falls into predictable categories – either prescriptive advice that assumes one size fits all, or aspirational content that makes nature seem like an exclusive club for the already fit and fearless.
This blog comes from a different place entirely. It emerges from lived experience of profound difficulty and unexpected healing. From academic training married to practical wisdom. From years of discovering that the answers we’re seeking don’t require expensive equipment or exotic locations – they require willingness to step outside our comfort zones and remember what we are.
You won’t find quick fixes here, or promises that everything will be easy if you just follow the right steps. What you will find is honest exploration of what it means to be human in an increasingly artificial world, and practical guidance for reclaiming your birthright of connection to the natural systems that sustain all life.
The Journey Ahead
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll explore together what it means to be ‘feral’ in the best possible sense – wild, authentic, undomesticated by systems that profit from our disconnection. We’ll discover that true strength often looks like gentleness, that real confidence comes from competence earned rather than comfort maintained, and that the medicine we’re seeking has been waiting for us in every patch of earth, every breath of unfiltered air, every moment of genuine stillness we’re brave enough to inhabit.
This isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about remembering who you’ve always been, underneath all the noise.
So whether you’re reading this from a city flat or a rural cottage, whether you’ve never spent a night outdoors or you practically live there already, whether you’re dealing with health challenges or blessed with abundant energy – welcome. There’s space here for what you need, and room for who you’re becoming.
The wild is calling, not in some romantic, Instagram-worthy way, but in the urgent, honest voice that knows we’ve drifted too far from what sustains us. It’s time to answer.
Welcome to the conversation. Welcome to the journey. Welcome to the wild that’s been waiting inside you all along.
