After the success of the ‘In Defence of Witches’ talk, many people expressed an interest in hearing more, and several stopped after the event to talk about elements of the Dark Triad of Personality – narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. It is a theme which has impacted both my personal and professional life, and one that ultimately led me to start this business; as those who attended the Halloween talk and other events will know.
As humans, and perhaps even more so as humans with a strong social conscience or those seeking respite or healing from the negative aspects of human behaviour, the dark side of human nature fascinates us. Mostly, we want to know why. Why people do what they do, especially when they act in ways that hurt, harm, or victimise others. We also seek answers to what we can do about it, how we can protect ourselves from it, and if we can heal after experiencing it; these questions are what drives many people to my door.
Over the coming months, with the unwavering support of the wonderful Vellichor Books in Stoke-on-Trent, we will take a deep dive into the dark triad of personality, exploring themes that run insidiously or even overtly through our society. For to strive for the light we must first understand the darkness…
